Dr. Saperstein is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. He has practiced in South Florida since 1995 and in Boca Raton since 2002. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College. He received his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine where he was awarded the Valentine Mott Medal. He performed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital before completing a sports medicine fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital where he served as a team physician with the New York Jets and New York Rangers.
Dr. Saperstein practices both operative and nonoperative orthopedics. He specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, with particular emphasis on the knee and shoulder. He also performs joint replacement surgery, fracture repair surgery and hand surgery.
Dr. Saperstein was one of the first surgeons in South Florida to perform all arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. This minimally invasive surgery has resulted in less scarring, diminished pain and earlier return to function than the older, open and mini-open techniques that are still performed by other surgeons. He is able to treat most shoulder pathology arthroscopically without the need for large, painful scars. Shoulder dislocations, labral tears and acromioclavicular joint arthritis can be treated in this manner.
Dr. Saperstein has extensive experience in arthroscopic knee reconstruction as well. He has performed several hundred ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstructions with excellent results. Most patients return to their previous level of sports participation. He has also performed several thousand arthroscopic surgeries for meniscal tears, loose bodies and articular pathology with equally successful outcomes.
Dr. Saperstein has served as team physician for numerous high school and community athletic programs. Currently he is team physician for the Pope John Paul II High School and Olympic Heights High School athletic programs. He has published numerous articles on various orthopedic surgery and sports medicine topics. He is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Saperstein is on the medical staff of Boca Raton Community Hospital where he is the Vice Chairman of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department. He serves on the Surgical Peer Review Committee and the Credentials Committee. Most surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis at BRCH or the Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery and Laser Center. |
